Portraiture

The next theme for our current learners was ‘Portraiture’. Taking portraits is a very challenging part of photography. You need to be confident to direct the model, you need to figure out how you’re going to take your portrait technically, and be different and creative. It’s a genre of photography generally underestimated until you have to turn your hand to it so well done to all our learners that gave it a go!

There were lots of great shots, but there can only be two winners…

The people have spoken! Well done to Kelly Henderson for this winning shot of a young boy wearing a hoodie. Great look into the lens and turning the shot B&W really helps the feeling of it. A well-deserved victory for Kelly, a perfect response to this tricky theme.

My vote for Portraiture goes to Stacey Beney for this shot of a young girl next to a fence. I really like the shallow depth of field, the way the subject looks like she’s going in the direction of the pattern, and also just because it’s a natural looking pose. A great response to the theme, well done.
