Near & Far
This month’s task was ‘Near & Far’. This theme was set to test our members skills in the control of depth of field whilst being creative. DOF is controlled by 3 things in photography and students had to control all these techniques creatively to get different and interesting compositions showing things towards the lens as well as going off into the distance.

This is TSOP’s number one shot. It is a brilliant response to the theme. These assignments are of course to put students’ knowledge to the test but they are also there to put your creativity to the next level. Playing with depth of field is one thing, but to come up with an idea like this to show this theme is creative and that gets a thumbs up from us 👍

Really good response to the theme looking thought the long grass to see the derelict building in the distance. The main interest of the image would be the old building in the background but here we are forced to see it through the grass in the foreground.

This shot got the most comments and likes on our TSOP members page and for good reason. The shot has been carefully set up with lighting coming in from the top left and it’s been composed in a neat and tidy way, drawing your attention to the chess piece in the foreground. It’s also been converted to black and white to further emphasis the monochromatic colours.
You’ll find that in most good photography, the more planning and preparation you put into a shot, the better it is and this is a perfect example of that.
Thank you everyone who entered into this month’s theme, even if you’ve not been mentioned here, you’ve gone out and practised and from that you’ve have learnt and taken another step forward in your photography journey.
