Distance
This week’s assignment is ‘Distance’. I set this theme to test student’s control of ‘Depth of Field’ whilst being creative. DOF is the amount of distance within an image that is sharp and is controlled by 3 things within photography. Students had to control those 3 techniques to show a sense of distance within the image.
We had some excellent entries but there can only be two!!
The winning images from our gallery are…..
The peoples vote goes to Brendan Rooney for this great take on the theme. This is also a compositional technique called ‘frame within a frame’ and really does accentuate that feeling of distance by adding foreground interest with the broken window. Great work!
My vote goes to Nicola Butler. I love this shot for its feeling of an English summer. The flowers in the foreground with the estuary behind it. The distance is shown here with a very shallow DOF which makes your eye wander around the scene looking at the grass and flowers. Great response to the theme.
