Abstract Review

Last month’s assignment was ‘Abstract’.This theme has been set to test your framing and composition whilst being creative.

We had loads of amazing entries, so it was hard to choose our favourites. But here at The School of Photography we have picked a few that we liked the best. To join in with these assignments please sign up to our TSOP Membership here.

Great response to this month’s theme by Tim – Camera Settings - f 5.6 - 1/250th Second - ISO 500 - 135mm focal length.

A very visually interesting shot. Tim has composed it in a way that splits the shot into two tones, the bright earthy colours of the top complimenting the dark earthy browns below. The you have the texture of the object to bring it all together. This shot fits the theme really well as we have no idea what it is!

Perfect response to this month’s assignment ‘Abstract’.

Great shot and a cracking response to this month’s theme. Harmonising colours with an extreme shallow depth of field. Fantastic shot Christiane 👍

Lisa, this is a brilliant response to the theme ‘Abstract’. Camera Settings - f5.6 - 1/100th Second - ISO 1400 - 55mm Focal Length. The reason we like this shot is:

This shot has a real shallow depth of field which is creating the bokeh effect from the bright colourful LED lights. The framing of this shot is also fantastic. It’s bursting out from the centre of the frame like a star burst or firework.

Love the shot Mark. To me it has a really nice nostalgic feeling which is being caused by the colour and the texture of it. The toning of the image reminds me of the first colour films that were produced back in the 70’s. The colour grading is really well done and suits the subject perfect.

Adam this is an amazing response to the theme ‘Abstract’

The reason we like this shot is that it hits the nail on the head for the theme abstract. It’s a great shot but no one can tell what it is – it’s abstract in every sense of the word!

This is a brilliant shot by Philip, real moody feel to it, reminds me of Mordor in Lord of Rings! It looks like it has been taken under soft light, probably on a cloudy day and I love landscape photography taken under that grey, dull light. Also, we love the fact you are making the most of the grey days as we have many here in the England!!

Fantastic shot by Paul and our favourite from the theme.

If ever you’ve seen an abstract shot, here it is! We have no idea what this could be and that was the whole point of the theme. The liner composition is fantastic and the vibrant colour jumps out of the shot. Just what it is Paul, spill the beans!

Well done Paul – gold star for you 😊
